MEP: ‘Stop the export of teargas to Bahrain’

Today, Marietje Schaake submitted written questions to the European Commission regarding reports of an impending shipment of teargas and other crowd control equipment to Bahrain, possibly by a South Korean company. Schaake has repeatedly called for a ban on the export of such equipment to Bahrain, where security forces have reacted to protests with excessive violence since 2011.

In January of this year the entire European Parliament supported her call for an export ban in this resolution. Last week, the advocacy group Bahrain Watch revealed a leaked document which showed an order including 1.6 million teargas shells and other grenades.
